Just a couple of kids at 21 & 23 years old. Both passengers on the plane they first locked eyes heading home from Perth to Melbourne seated close to one another, they exchanged glances but not a word was spoken. Ross recalls her long wavy brown hair & smile.

Gemma remembers being a little sad that she wouldn't see that guy again.

4-05-2013

6 months later..

Gemma on a girl's night out, ended up at a nightclub in Melbourne called Baroq. She had just entered as Ross grabbed her arm and said ''hey I know you!''

Being extremely tipsy and not recognizing him with a shaved head. She politely smiled & turned around to continue walking on, when her friend pulled her back encouraging her to chat with the handsome man staring at her intensely. So she said Hello.

To her surprise, this boy was as Glaswegian as they come! (It's not often you meet a Scottish man in a pretentious Melbourne nightclub)

They chatted about Scotland mostly, Ross telling her he was from Clydebank and Gemma sharing that her Dad was also from that same area of Glasgow. Despite Gemma declaring her whole family are keen Rangers supporters Ross bought her a drink anyway. It instantly felt like they knew one another. Constantly interrupted in a rowdy bar full of people, they ended up going their separate ways and the night ended there.

The next day Gemma's Facebook inbox had a message from Ross.

''Hey, I know how I thought I knew you.'' You were the girl on the plane.

A few messages went back and forth confirming that they were on the same flight. Ross asked Gemma to go for a coffee. She went to Scotland with her Mum and had a great holiday with family but forgot to reply to that message about the coffee..

SEP 2013

A few months later..

Gemma was back in Australia when she finally got around to replying. She said sorry for the delay and explained to Ross she didn't have much wifi in Scotland and that if he was still up for the coffee she would love to.

There was no reply..

FEB 2014

5months later...

At work one day Gemma's friend called her out for not opening her snapchats. Her friend changed her settings after Gemma explained that she hadn't received any of them. Around 20 messages came through but one stood out to her right away.. Rosssssssssssss (with 13 S's)

She knew it was him.

The picture message was of Melbourne city skyline at night. Not sure what to make of it, she ignored the message but happy that it was only sent a few days prior. This boy was starting to eat into her thoughts and she was more eager now to meet him

MARCH 2014

A few weeks later

On a night out with her Sister, Gemma drunkenly scrolled Facebook. Sean McIlroy a friend of hers had posted a photo of a group of boys at an Irish Bar in Melbourne's CBD. Ross Harvey was in this photo. She didn't know they were friends and it seemed like a stroke of fate that she had seen this. So Gemma convinced her sister to leave and head to the Irish Bar to 'run into him'

Laura's now aware of Gemma's very keen interest in a guy she barely even knew, but supported her anyway.

When they arrived, all they find was an empty table, where the boys were seated an hour earlier in the photo, a hole in the roof above the table with candy tape around the full area! They had a good laugh and wondered what the hell those wild boys got up to and after a few hours of dancing they headed home with no stroke of fate after all.

MARCH 2014

A week or so later..

Gemma and her Sister Laura went out for dinner on a random school night, after much debate they end up at Rococo an Italian place on Acland St, St Kilda. Sitting, just having finished their Pizza and about to head home, Laura started kicking Gemma under the table

''That's that guy but don't look now''

Ross and his brother were walking right past our table.

Gemma instead of saying the old fashion hello, shyly sent a picture of Rococo to the Rossssssss Snapchat account with text ''Did you just walk past here''

No instant reply they decided to head down to Branch for just one wine.

As they got to the door of Branch.. a snapchat came through which was a photo of a beer and said ''YES come to Branch for a drink?''

Unbeknown to Gemma, Ross saw her face light up opening his message as she was already just outside the bar he was in.

They joined the boys for a drink for a couple of hours. Gemma held Ross's hand under the table and there was no denying the two of them had an instant connection.

Laura had work the next day and was giving Gemma the eyes to say let's go! Ross caught this and dropped Laura's keys into the bottom of his full jug of beer "We can go when we can get your keys" They finished up the beer & headed home.

Ross was heading to Perth that weekend with mates.

Gemma was working the red-eye flight to Perth. In the 4 years Gemma worked with Tiger the plane never broke down for her and she never got to experience any spontaneous fun overnights the other crew sometimes did. When the plane landed in Perth at 12am local time the pilot informed the crew the weather radar was playing up and we would be stuck in Perth waiting for the part to be shipped in.

She got her stroke of fate!!

They spent some quality time together in Perth & the rest is history!
